At the heart of Iyengar Yoga is the concept of ahimsa, or non-harming. This includes not only our actions towards others, but also towards the environment. When choosing a yoga bolster, consider investing in one that is made from environmentally friendly materials, such as recycled materials.

Our bolster covers are made from new organically grown cotton but the majority of the weight of a bolster is in its filling. Our bolsters are filled with materials that would otherwise end up in landfill. They are packed with up to 4kg of recycled cotton or recycled PET (plastic bottles), and are just as supportive and durable as their non-recycled counterparts.

Organic cotton requires a significant amount of water to grow, and this can be a concern in areas where water is scarce. In comparison, recycled cotton uses water only to wash it, and is a much more sustainable option.

Recycled cotton is made by repurposing old cotton clothing or fabric scraps, which reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and reduces the need for new cotton production. Compared to conventional cotton production, this method requires fewer resources and less energy, which contributes to its overall sustainability.

Our bolsters made from recycled plastic bottles, also known as PET bolsters, are another eco-friendly option to consider. These bolsters are made by transforming plastic bottles into polyester fibers, which are then used to fill the yoga bolsters.

PET bolsters offer several benefits. Firstly, they divert plastic bottles from landfills and oceans, which helps to reduce environmental waste. Additionally, like the recycled cotton bolster filling, the production of PET bolsters requires less energy and resources compared to the production of new polyester or cotton materials, making it a more sustainable option overall.

Another advantage of PET bolsters is their durability. PET fibers are strong and resistant to wear and tear, making PET bolsters long-lasting and able to withstand frequent use. They are also easy to maintain, and hold their shape and support.
